“The economist E.F. Schumacher, pioneer of the smaller-scale appropriate technology theory wrote in his classic 1973 book Small is Beautiful that “The system of nature, of which man is a part, tends to be self-balancing, self-adjusting, self-cleansing. Not so with technology.” Although perhaps idealistically aligned with Schumacher, the contemporary artist, technologist, and environmentalist Cary Peppermint would argue that there are, in fact, many parallels between technology and nature.”
